I-2124 Will Increase OUR Costs
i-2124 will Cost Women and Working Families
I-2124 increases costs for working people, including nurses, teachers and firefighters, by eliminating Washington’s long-term care insurance program. I-2124 will send more people into debt when faced with expensive long-term care bills and private insurance premiums they can't afford. And it will cause more people, mostly women, to leave their jobs to provide unpaid care for loved ones with disabilities, or who are sick or aging.
“It was a shock when my mother had a stroke. I had to leave my career to care for her with no resources to help cover the expenses.
I-2124 will put millions more into the same stressful expensive situation.”
—Christina Keys, Vancouver WA
i-2124 impacts On WOMEN
I-2124 will put more pressure on working women.
When Christina Keys’ healthy mother had an unexpected stroke, she was shocked that her expensive health insurance would not cover expenses like home care, and neither would Medicare.
Christina had no choice but to leave her career to care for her mom.
I-2124 will cause more people like Christina, mostly women, to provide unpaid care for loved ones with disabilities, or who are sick or aging. By ending Washington’s long term care insurance program, I-2124 worsens the care crisis that’s causing huge financial stress for families, and hurting our economy.
